About the museum
In the GDR, the name Robotron stood for one of the largest computer and electronics groups, at times with around 68,000 employees. The present-day Robotron Datenbank-Software GmbH has no legal ties to that former combine, but the roots of the software company lie in its developments. Over the years, customers, partners and former employees donated many collection items to the company.
To mark the brand's 50th anniversary, part of the collection was made publicly accessible: on April 1, 2019, the museum opened at the company's site in Coschütz, on about 100 square meters. The collection comprises around 600 objects; the storage also holds company records, user literature and data media.
Three themed rooms tell the story of the brand from the founding of the combine in 1969 to the present, with a focus on database and software history, alongside computing technology, people and social policy, and consumer goods production. Contemporary witness interviews can be heard at a listening station, historical technology may be tried out, and the company's own collection database Daphne shows how museum objects are digitally cataloged. The museum opens only on special occasions.
