About the museum
The Minjasafnið at Mánárbakki on Tjörnes, not far from Húsavík, opened on 18 June 1995. The museum is housed in a building called Þórshamar, which was moved to the site from Húsavík. Later, Lækjarbakki, a new building, was added to hold objects that did not fit into Þórshamar.
The museum contains objects from the countryside that show the life and work of people on Tjörnes in earlier times. The buildings are in the Icelandic style.
