About the museum
The Cliffs of Moher are sea cliffs on the Atlantic coast of County Clare that run for about 14 kilometres and rise to about 214 metres north of O’Brien’s Tower. Near the middle of the cliffs stands O’Brien’s Tower, which Sir Cornelius O’Brien built in 1835 as a viewing point for visitors.
The Cliffs of Moher Visitor Experience is a visitor centre built into the hillside, which opened in February 2007 after many years of planning. It is run by Clare County Council through Clare Tourism Development and has recorded more than a million visits a year in recent years.
The centre contains a self-guided cliffs exhibition and a theatre. Outside, visitors can follow about 800 metres of paved pathways to the viewing areas and to O’Brien’s Tower. A free audio guide is available through an app, and guided tours, school visits and a summer shuttle bus service are also offered.
