About the museum
Titanic Experience Cobh is housed in the former White Star Line ticket office on Casement Square in Cobh, then known as Queenstown. On 11 April 1912, 123 passengers gathered here before boarding the Titanic, bound for New York. Only a few days later the ship sank in the North Atlantic.
The visit begins with a boarding card carrying the identity of one of those 123 passengers. A guide then leads small groups through the building, using audio-visual displays and reconstructed cabins to recreate the sights, sounds and smells of the harbour in 1912. The story follows the embarking passengers, life on board and the events of the sinking as seen by survivors.
After the tour of about 40 minutes, visitors explore a self-paced exhibition on individual passengers, the part played by the rescue ship Carpathia, and the British and American inquiries. Objects on show include a chair from the Carpathia, items from the Odell family collection, an original letter from a survivor and White Star Line dinnerware. A souvenir shop and a craft shop are next door.
