About the museum
Cuby & the Blizzards formed in 1964 in Assen around the singer Harry Muskee and the guitarist Eelco Gelling and are among the best-known blues bands in the Netherlands. After a break-up, Muskee withdrew to a small farmhouse in Grolloo; the second album “Groeten uit Grollo” (1967) became a classic of Dutch pop history, and the village developed into a place of pilgrimage for musicians and artists.
The band split up in 1972, was revived in 1995 and performed until 2011. Under the Stichting tot Behoud van het Cultureel Erfgoed Harry Muskee, the C+B Museum opened on 1 June 2011 in the little house on the Voorstreek where Muskee had lived from 1965 to 1971. A few months later, on 26 September 2011, he died.
On around 250 square metres in a completely preserved two-storey house, the museum shows the story of Muskee and his band; exhibitions have also been devoted to Herman Brood and Eelco Gelling. The exhibition “Harry Spreekt” was seen by more than 10,000 visitors until April 2023, and over 4,600 guests came in 2022. An audio tour via a podcast phone accompanies the visit, and materials from Dick Bron and Herman Deinum are accessible in the archive.
