About the museum
The Erotic Museum is located on Oudezijds Achterburgwal in the middle of Amsterdam's red-light district, De Wallen. It is housed in a listed former warehouse dating from 1685; high up on the façade, an old stone tablet with a Bible verse recalls the date of construction.
On several floors the house shows erotic art from various eras, including sculptures, lithographs, drawings and historic postcards, photographs and books. One room is dedicated to John Lennon's erotic sketches, one floor is devoted to the theme of BDSM, and in the foyer an unusual figure on a bicycle greets guests.
The museum sees itself as a tongue-in-cheek tour through the history of eroticism and is aimed exclusively at adults. It is not to be confused with the Sex Museum on Damrak.
