About the museum
The Gelderse Smalspoor Stichting was founded in Wijchen in 1984 and collects narrow-gauge equipment that was used in the Dutch brick industry. After several moves, the museum found its present location in October 2005 on the grounds of the Steenbakkerij Randwijk in Heteren, a brickworks that is itself a listed monument. It is run by volunteers as a foundation and is a member of Historisch Railvervoer Nederland.
A narrow-gauge line with a gauge of 700 mm runs across the site. On a guided tour, visitors experience the world of the 20th-century brick industry with an authentic workshop, locomotive shed, restored trains, a former bucket-chain excavator from the brickworks, a brick press and a kiln. The narrow-gauge railway also takes you through the river floodplains, past old clay pits, with views across the river towards Wageningen.
