About the museum

The origin of the Historisch Museum Ede lies in the association Vereniging Oud Ede, which was founded in 1924 and quickly gathered objects and photographs on local history. From 1926 the collection was shown to visitors for the first time, initially in a cabinet in the waiting room of the savings bank of Ede. In 1938 the museum opened in a listed farmhouse on the Driehoek, and from 1975 it was housed in the former station building of Ede Centrum.

At the end of 2015 the time at the station came to an end. Since then the museum has essentially been a collection without a fixed location: it shows one to two large exhibitions a year, mostly in the cultural centre Cultura on Molenstraat, and takes part in pop-up presentations at other locations. Since 2009 the foundation Historisch Museum Ede has managed and presented the association's collection.

In terms of content, the museum today is oriented less towards objects than towards themes and stories that draw a line from the past to the present; suitable pieces from the holdings are sought out for this. The museum is a core partner of Cultura Erfgoed, the joint heritage centre with the municipal archive, the association Oud Ede and other partners, where it is responsible for museum tasks and education.

The collection includes paintings and prints, textiles, topographical maps, audiovisual material and everyday objects from Ede and the surrounding area.
