About the museum

The museum's origins go back to August 1994, when the Rock & Art Hall of Fame Holland foundation was established. For ten years the founders travelled all over the country, building an extensive collection and a large network. The result was the opening of Museum RockArt on 17 October 2004 in Hoek van Holland.

The collection comprises many thousands of items, from singles, music magazines, posters and stage costumes to instruments and contracts, gold records and awards. Because not everything can be shown at once, the display cases are regularly restocked and adapted to current events in music history. The fixed core is a permanent exhibition on around 70 years of pop history: with the shore and ship studio of the pirate station Radio Veronica, original recording equipment from a 1960s studio, a drive-in piece of furniture from Radio Noordzee from the 1970s and a record bar with headphones.

Today the museum, located in the De Zekken business park, sees itself as the Nationaal PopMuseum. The range extends from Indorock and Nederbeat through Nederpop to jazz and rock 'n' roll; the history of the offshore radio stations is given a lot of space. The museum has a bar for drinks, and the shop is accessible without an admission ticket.
