About the museum
The Nederlands Artillerie Museum was founded in 1961 and is dedicated to the history of the Dutch artillery, the "Wapen der Artillerie". It stands on the Woldberg, a hill about 60 metres high within the Legerplaats bij Oldebroek military site near 't Harde, with views over the heathland of the northern Veluwe. It is run by the Stichting Nederlands Artillerie Museum and a group of volunteers, including many former artillerymen.
The exhibition is spread across four pavilions from 1875, set in an English landscape-style park and protected as a Rijksmonument. In total there are around 750 square metres of exhibition space. One pavilion covers the period before 1900, another fortress, armoured fort and coastal artillery. The third holds guns from the first half of the 20th century, the Royal Netherlands East Indies Army (KNIL) and the May days of 1940; the fourth shows field artillery from 1950 to the present and contains a memorial room for seven soldiers who died in a mortar accident in 1983. The pavilions were formerly used as bicycle sheds, guardhouses, a kitchen and a teaching building, among other things.
Building 169 houses a documentation centre with a library. Next to the museum stands the Veterans' House, a meeting place for former artillerymen and other veterans. Because the museum is located on an active barracks site, special access rules apply.
