About the museum
Mendietxe Museoa opened in 2024 on the initiative of the mountaineer Alex Txikon, who presents it as a personal project and as a tribute to the passion for heights and to the objects that have marked the history of mountaineering.
The museum occupies the historic convent of the Esclavas del Sagrado Corazón de Jesús, in the centre of Azpeitia. Now that its second phase has opened, it has more than 1,100 m² devoted to mountaineering and mountain culture.
The route is organised into three rooms with three exhibitions: the historical collection and the Alex Txikon collection, both permanent, and an occasional collection of a temporary nature that offers new stories. The Txikon collection shows the equipment, experiences and key moments of his expeditions to some of the most demanding peaks on the planet.
