About the museum

Moguer EScultura is an open-air museum made up of sculptures and monuments spread across the historic centre of Moguer. It was born on the initiative of the town council in 2014, on the occasion of the centenary of “Platero y yo” and the Platero Year, to beautify the urban centre with works linked to the town's tourist and cultural landmarks. The ensemble brings together pieces that already existed, such as the statues of Juan Ramón Jiménez and Zenobia Camprubí, together with new works.

The best-known part is the series devoted to “Platero y yo”, whose pieces are inspired by different chapters of the book. The first was the statue of Platero, by the Seville-born artist Álvaro Flores, chosen in an international ideas competition organised by the Fundación Municipal de Cultura. Further scenes include “Idilio de abril”, “El niño y el agua”, “El tío de las vistas”, “Darbón”, “Aguedilla” and “La Miga”.

The museum has continued to grow with pieces unveiled at other commemorations, such as the anniversary of the Discovery of America in 2017 and the “Moguer, América y yo” days since 2024. The route is free and can be combined with a visit to the historic centre and to the Casa Museo Zenobia Juan Ramón Jiménez.
