About the museum

Electrobroc is the visitor and information centre of the energy company Groupe E, right next to the Broc hydroelectric power plant in the Gruyère region. The centre aims to make energy understandable without jargon and without preaching, and invites visitors to try out for themselves the links between electricity production, everyday life and the climate.

Over roughly 1,200 square metres, a staff member guides visitors through the exhibition. On show are a film about the regional hydropower plants, an animated film on the history of energy and an animated model plant of 19 square metres that simulates electricity consumption over 24 hours. Hands-on stations show, for example, generating electricity by bike, how a dynamo works or the greenhouse effect; one room explains electricity in everyday life.

Two rooms were recently redesigned: the “BlitzLab”, which combines the fascination of electricity with the prevention of hazards, and the hydropower area, which runs from the dam to the power plant. The Broc power plant is being renewed until 2027; Electrobroc stays open throughout, with an adapted tour that also offers glimpses of the construction site. The group's offering also includes dam tours and a free outdoor educational trail.
