About the museum
The Enea Tree Museum was established in 2010 on the grounds of Enzo Enea's landscape architecture firm in Rapperswil-Jona. The idea: fully grown trees that were due to make way for construction projects elsewhere are rescued, replanted and shown as a living collection. According to the operator, it is the only tree museum in the world. It lies in a park of around 75,000 square metres on the Upper Lake of Lake Zurich, which also includes an arboretum with several thousand woody plants and the working landscape of the tree nursery.
At the centre are about 50 rescued trees, some over 100 years old, arranged in designed paths and spaces. Since 2013, contemporary sculptures by renowned artists have also been shown in the park, entering into a dialogue with trees, plants and landscape; the names shown include Richard Erdman, Jaume Plensa, Ugo Rondinone and Sylvie Fleury. Klaus Littmann's walk-in "Arena for a Tree" has found its permanent home here.
The park also includes a reception building, a Victorian orangery and a tea house, which can also be hired for events. The museum is open on weekdays and Saturdays; there is an annual ticket and tours on request.
