About the museum
The ski museum is housed in the former railway station restaurant at Le Boéchet in the Swiss Jura, directly opposite the station. The building was converted from 2019 in a comprehensive renovation lasting more than two years. To secure the project in the long term, the Skimuseum Foundation was established in 2021, which also acquired the collection of Laurent Donzé. The scenography was designed together with atelier oï; the museum opened in autumn 2023, and the permanent exhibition has been on view since September 30, 2023.
The core of the collection is that of Laurent Donzé, who began gathering material in the mid-1970s. At first cross-country skiing was the focus; later alpine skiing and other disciplines were added. For a long time the collection was displayed in the barn of his farm, where it drew the attention of media and museums.
Today the holdings comprise several thousand objects: skis, boots, bindings, poles, waxes and other equipment, plus postcards, brochures and magazines, and a library of around 1,200 books on skiing. The museum appeals to ski enthusiasts as well as to visitors who do not ski themselves.
