A Dorset Collection of Clocks

A gallery of more than thirty longcase clocks and several turret clocks at the Mill House near Owermoigne in Dorset.

Opening hoursAdmission £3

About the museum

The collection grew out of the clocks owned by the family that runs Mill House, which included about thirty longcase clocks and four turret clocks. It is housed in a gallery that was built alongside the new shop at the same time.

The longcase clocks are arranged in date order, so visitors can follow how clock design changed through the 18th and 19th centuries. The display links this to the introduction of the pendulum in 1670, which opened the so-called Golden Age of English clockmaking. English and French turret clocks show movements that are normally hidden inside church or public-building towers.

The collection sits on the same site as the Mill House Cider Museum and shares its address and opening times, and a combined ticket for both is available.
