About the museum
The Adjutant General's Corps Museum is housed in the former guardroom of Peninsula Barracks, at the top of Winchester High Street. It opened in November 2003 and brought together the collections of several predecessor corps that had previously been kept at different places around the country.
The Adjutant General's Corps itself was formed in 1992 from the Royal Army Pay Corps, the Royal Army Educational Corps, the Women's Royal Army Corps, the Army Legal Services Branch, the Military Provost Staff Corps and the Royal Military Police. The museum's main collection covers the pay, education and women's corps, while the military police and provost staff collections are held at their own sites.
The displays run in order of time from the eighteenth century to the present day, using text, photographs, objects and dioramas to describe the social history of the British Army, from the way soldiers were paid and taught to the history of military law, guarding and women in the forces. The building also serves as the visitor information point for Winchester's Military Museums.

The approach from the city centre is steep. An accessible unisex toilet with a baby-changing table is halfway through the displays (the door is heavy to open from a seated position). All audio points have an induction loop. Seating is provided throughout and text panels can be read from a seated position. Free parking spaces for disabled visitors are in front of the neighbouring Rifleman's Museum, but cannot be reserved and a car pass is still needed.
