About the museum
Barts Pathology Museum holds the pathology collection that came together in 1995, when the London Hospital Medical College and St Bartholomew's Hospital Medical College merged. After the Second World War the collection declined and it was largely neglected until a donation in 2010 paid for renovation.
The museum is now a public engagement venture of Queen Mary University of London. It describes itself as primarily a teaching facility and a hub for the medical humanities, part of the university's Institute of Health Sciences Education. It is housed on the third floor of the Robin Brook Centre at St Bartholomew's Hospital in the City of London.
More than 4,000 specimens are on display across three mezzanine levels, with about 1,000 more in storage and about 800 used for anatomy teaching. The specimens illustrate injury, disease, execution and body modification, including items such as a liver deformed by tight corset lacing and a bound foot. The museum holds lectures, workshops and open afternoons at selected times.
