About the museum
The museum grew out of a private collection of radio and television sets assembled by the engineer Gerry Wells and is now run as a registered charity. It sits in a building at the rear of a house on Rosendale Road in West Dulwich.
The displays follow British broadcasting from the first experiments with wireless and early television to the start of the BBC radio and television services and the mass-market sets of the mid-20th century. The collection includes early crystal sets, rare pre-war receivers, many post-war television sets and equipment from the amplifier company WADAR.
Several of the sets still work and are used to play historic broadcasts, and some pieces have unusual ownership histories or have appeared in period dramas. Visits are normally guided and need to be arranged in advance by telephone; the museum also takes part in Heritage Open Days.
