About the museum
Callington Heritage Centre is housed in the former chapel building on Liskeard Road, at the entrance to the cemetery. It opened on 2 June 1994 and was modernised and relaunched on 22 July 2006. A fire in March 2007 damaged the building and the archive, and the centre did not open that season, although most of the archive was saved.
The centre shows the social and economic history of Callington and the surrounding parishes in south-east Cornwall. The permanent displays cover prehistory and mining, with a model of the town centre around 1840 and a display on Callington railway station. A changing display of objects and documents is shown alongside three exhibitions staged each year between April and October.
The centre is staffed by volunteers and supports family historians, house historians and local researchers. Schools and youth groups are welcome to visit.
