About the museum
Castlefield Gallery was founded in 1984 by the Manchester Artists Studio Association and is an artist-led space for contemporary art.
It occupies a building on Hewitt Street, close to the Castlefield area of Manchester, where it presents a changing programme of exhibitions of contemporary art. The gallery has no permanent collection; the displays change from one show to the next and the spaces close between exhibitions while the next show is installed.
Besides exhibitions, the organisation runs commissions, talks and professional development schemes for artists, which is why it describes itself as both a gallery and an artist-development body.
