About the museum
The Craven Collection was started by the Yorkshire racer and motorcycle enthusiast Dick Craven and first opened to visitors at Easter 1994. It is housed in old farm buildings on the east side of York, near the A64, at Stockton on the Forest.
Today the collection has more than 200 motorcycles on show, with the owner counting about 250, and a large amount of motoring memorabilia. The British section has more than 230 machines from 1918 to 1987, and there is also a Japanese section of about 40 bikes. Other sections cover sidecars, army and police motorcycles, scooters, trials bikes and four-wheeled vehicles.
The owner sees it as a working museum rather than a static display. Most of the bikes are in running order and are used, some of them for television work, and new exhibits appear from time to time.
