About the museum
Datchworth Museum opened in June 1991 in a former blacksmith's forge in the Hertfordshire village of Datchworth. The forge was last used in 1953, and the original bellows are still intact and are the museum's main feature.
Other objects are shown in glass cabinets. The museum is in the side door of a Victorian cottage on Datchworth Green, two doors past The Plough pub at the crossroads.
In 1995 the Friends of Datchworth Museum were set up to give the museum a regular income for its running costs. Students and history groups can visit by arrangement.
