About the museum
The Dean Forest Railway Museum preserves relics of the railways of the Forest of Dean, with a particular focus on the Severn & Wye Railway and its joint line. It is housed at the Dean Forest Railway's base at Norchard and is entered through the railway shop.
The museum was first accredited by the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council in May 2007 and gained Full Accreditation from Arts Council England in February 2015. In April 2018 the charity that runs it was converted into a Charitable Incorporated Organisation, the Dean Forest Railway Museum Trust.
The museum has also published its own books on the local lines, including Rails to the Forest (2010) and Rails through the Forest (2013). Researchers who want to see items that are not on display can contact the honorary curator.
