About the museum
The museum honours Duncan Edwards, the Dudley-born footballer who played for Worcestershire Schoolboys, Dudley Town and Manchester United and died in 1958 after the Munich air disaster. It was founded by Rose Cook-Monk, who runs the Duncan Edwards Foundation, and was opened to the public on 14 August 2020 by members of the family of Jimmy Murphy.
The museum is on the upper floor of a building on Castle Street. Visitors climb a staircase whose steps each carry the name of a victim of the Munich disaster, and the displays follow Edwards’s childhood, schooldays, national service and football career. Rooms include a replica 1936 family living room, and a dedicated area deals with the Munich tragedy. The founder has described a collection of about 3,000 items, including his schoolboy tie and the Worcestershire Schoolboys ledger.
Entry has been free, with donations accepted. Dudley Museum at the Archives, run by the local council, shows a separate display about Edwards.
