About the museum
Earls Barton Museum is a small museum run by village volunteers, in a room above the Jeyes gift and coffee shop on The Square. It tells the story of the village through the lives of its shoemakers, in a community where making boots and shoes was the main trade for generations.
The displays show how a traditional shoe worker lived, worked and shopped, together with village records and photographs. The museum also helps family historians with research, and it welcomes visits from schools, local history groups and holidaymakers.
The building is the home of the Jeyes family business, which also runs an old-style chemist shop display and heritage exhibitions elsewhere on the premises. Groups can book guided walks around Earls Barton and talks, and school or research visits are arranged in advance with the volunteers or the Jeyes team.
