About the museum
Eastside Projects is an artist-run space in the Digbeth area of Birmingham. It was founded by six artists and opened in September 2008 with an exhibition called This is the Gallery and the Gallery is Many Things. It is a not-for-profit company and an Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisation, working in partnership with Birmingham City University.
The gallery commissions and shows experimental contemporary art and also runs events, residencies, research and public art projects in the city. Exhibitions are developed by its own staff and invited artists, and the space is not hired out for outside shows. Even the staff offices have been treated as artist commissions.
Entry to the gallery is free. It describes itself as a place where many ideas and stories can exist side by side, and it invites visitors to take part rather than just look.
