About the museum
Eyam Hall is a Grade II* listed manor house beside St Lawrence’s Church in the Peak District village of Eyam. It dates from the early 1670s and is regarded as an unspoilt example of a small Jacobean gritstone manor house. The Wright family has lived there for around nine generations, so the building has remained a family home rather than becoming a conventional museum.
The village itself is best known for the plague outbreak of 1665 and 1666, and the hall is one of several historic places to visit in Eyam. For some years the National Trust leased the hall, but the family now runs it again.
Today the house and gardens are opened to the public on selected dates in spring and autumn, with an audio tour that visitors play on their own smartphone. A courtyard next to the hall has a coffee shop and shops and is open throughout the year. The hall and courtyard are also used as a wedding venue.
