About the museum

The Frazer Nash Archives were set up by John Aldington to preserve and promote the history of the Frazer Nash marque, from the first GN cyclecar of 1910 to the last post-war Frazer Nash design of 1957. The archive also covers the link between Frazer Nash and BMW.

The core of the collection is the documents, photographs and memorabilia that Aldington took with him in 1988, when the Isleworth company became wholly owned by Porsche. Much of it had been gathered by his uncle Bill Aldington. A plan to house it at Brooklands Museum did not go ahead, and the motoring journalist Denis Jenkinson helped put the material in order when he wrote the history of the company. The archive is now permanently housed in premises in Henley-on-Thames.

The holdings include works records, a file for each Frazer Nash chassis built between 1923 and 1957, correspondence, photographs, trophies, posters and drawings. A dedicated exhibition area shows the story of the cars and the people behind them, and includes a working model of the chain-drive transmission. Four historic cars given by John Aldington are displayed when they are not away at events. The archive is a registered charity run by a group of trustees.
