About the museum
Frenchay Village Museum is run by the Frenchay Tuckett Society and is housed in a former lodge of Frenchay Park. Volunteers renovated the derelict building with a Millennium grant and the museum opened to the public in May 2000. In 2017 the society took a long lease on the building.
The displays show the history of Frenchay and the surrounding area. They include material on the Fry chocolate family, a porcelain collection, mountaineering displays and sketchbooks, wartime memorabilia and a large display on the history of Frenchay Hospital, with objects saved from the hospital. A window is dedicated to Radio Lollipop, the hospital radio service for children. Visiting exhibitions are shown from time to time.
The society also holds a regular series of talks and publishes local history books, which are sold in the museum. The museum depends on volunteers to open and asks for more help.
