About the museum
Frinton Crossing Cottage was once home to the keepers of the railway gates at Frinton-on-Sea station. The railway reached Frinton in 1867, and the station opened in 1888 as the village was developed into a seaside resort. In 1984 the Frinton and Walton Heritage Trust agreed with British Rail to turn the derelict entrance to the station into a garden and community centre.
The cottage now holds objects and archive material that tell the story of Frinton, Walton-on-the-Naze and the neighbouring villages. It stands in a cottage garden with a wildlife area and an information board. In 2009 a railway signal box was moved into the garden and became another exhibit.
The relocated gatekeeper's hut in the grounds houses the Trevor Bright Railway Museum. The old level crossing barriers, replaced in 2009, and some memorabilia from Liverpool Street station can be seen in the gardens by the station car park.
