About the museum
The museum occupies the former control tower of RAF Twinwood Farm, a wartime airfield north of Bedford. During the Second World War Glenn Miller's band was based in the area. Miller gave a concert at Twinwood on 27 August 1944 and disappeared on a flight from the airfield in December 1944, which has made the site a place of remembrance for his fans.
The control tower was restored and opened to the public as a museum in 2002 by Beryl Davis, who had sung with Miller during the war. Visitors can see the restored control room overlooking the airfield, displays about the Royal Air Force at Twinwood, an exhibition of aviation art and a room about Miller and his music.
The museum is one of several small museums on the Twinwood site, which also include an aviation museum, a motor transport section, a wartime fire service museum, a recreated 1940s airman's billet and a First World War display. They are open to the public on Sundays in the summer season.

Getting there & parking
By public transit
Bedford railway station is about 3 miles away, and the organisers suggest a taxi. Bus 51 runs from Bedford to Clapham, but the site is an uphill walk from the village.
The site can only be reached by Twinwood Road, which starts at a roundabout on Milton Road in Clapham. Some satnav systems give wrong directions near Clapham; the organisers suggest entering the coordinates N52.1692492 W0.5049295 and checking a conventional map.
