About the museum
The Guru Nanak Sikh Museum was set up in 1992 inside the Guru Nanak Dev Ji Gurdwara in the Holy Bones area of Leicester. The gurdwara itself occupies a former knitwear factory and is one of the oldest Sikh places of worship in the city.
The displays introduce Sikh religious history and culture through models, paintings, photographs and artefacts. They include a scale model of the Golden Temple in Amritsar and paintings that tell stories from Sikh tradition, along with material about the dedication and sacrifice of Sikh followers.
Because the museum is part of a working gurdwara, visits are arranged by booking and visitors are expected to follow the customs of the place of worship.
