About the museum

Holme Pierrepont Hall is a Grade I listed Tudor manor house a few miles from Nottingham. It was built around 1500 by Sir William Pierrepont and contains some of the earliest brickwork in the county. The Pierrepont family settled at Holme at the end of the thirteenth century through the marriage of Henry de Pierrepont to Annora de Manvers, and the estate has stayed in the family line ever since.

The family included several well-known figures, among them the Marquess of Dorchester and the Dukes of Kingston upon Hull. In later generations the hall passed through the female line to the Brackenbury family. Georgina Brackenbury, an artist and militant suffragette, and Marie Louise Pierrepont, the last Countess Manvers, were both connected with the house.

Three generations of the Brackenbury family still live in the hall, and they run it as an exclusive-use wedding and event venue. The house, with its reception rooms, family portraits and antique furniture, and its courtyard, east garden and woodland gardens are open to the public for about five weeks in the snowdrop season, as well as for special events and pre-booked group tours.
