About the museum
The Liverpool Scottish was raised in 1900 as the 8th (Scottish) Volunteer Battalion of The King’s (Liverpool Regiment), at the time of the Boer War. It took part in the First World War as one of the first Territorial battalions to reach Flanders and later became part of the Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders, before serving on in the Territorial Army under several names until it was removed from the Army’s order of battle after the 2011 defence review.
The Regimental Museum Trust was founded in 1979 to look after the collection of objects gathered since the battalion was formed. It is run entirely by volunteers and relies on donations. The collection includes diaries, paintings and memorabilia from the First World War, uniforms from the whole history of the regiment, and material on the pipes and drums, including pipe banners and their heraldry.
The museum’s archive office has moved out of its former premises and is now in rooms in the Artists Club off Dale Street in Liverpool city centre. Visits are possible only by arrangement, and the trust also answers research enquiries about former members of the regiment.

Plan your visit
| Good to know | The museum office is in a private members’ club. Visitors arriving after 12:30 pm are asked to dress smartly (the club asks for a collar and tie and no denim). Visitors are asked to phone from the street rather than use the entrance bell. Eberle Street is very narrow and closed to general motor traffic. |
