About the museum
Long Buckby Museum opened in 2000 with the help of a Heritage Lottery Fund grant. It gives an insight into the history of the village and the surrounding area, and is of interest to anyone researching village life, people and events. The museum is housed in the Long Buckby Community Centre on Station Road. The Long Buckby Local History Society, which has its own page on the museum website, meets in the main hall of the same building.
Long Buckby is a large village in Northamptonshire whose history goes back more than a thousand years. In 1281 the lord of the manor obtained a charter for a weekly market and annual fairs, and the earthworks of a medieval castle, known locally as The Mounts, still survive near the centre. The museum website also publishes the research notes of the local historian Phil Davis.
The museum opens only on a small number of dates each year, usually Sunday afternoons, and its displays change; a recent exhibition looked at education in Long Buckby between 1844 and 2024. Visits at other times can be arranged in advance.
