About the museum

Long Melford Heritage Centre opened in 2012 as a small community museum for the village of Long Melford in Suffolk. It is run by the Long Melford Heritage Trust, a registered charity supported by a large group of volunteers, and it has the backing of the Association for Suffolk Museums. The trust is working towards accredited museum status.

The centre is housed in the annexe at the rear of the Village Memorial Hall in Chemist Lane. Its aim is to explore more than 2,000 years of the history and heritage of Long Melford, and it combines interactive displays and exhibitions with school visits and public events.

The collection includes objects from everyday village life, local customs and traditions, and historic photographs such as views of old cottages, the village pond with horses and the Long Melford fair. The centre also records the stories and memories of local people, so that the recollections of residents become part of the village archive.
