About the museum
The Longshoreman’s Museum records the local history of Ventnor’s beach and of the longshoremen who worked there. It is a small museum on the Esplanade that shares its premises with a gift shop, so visitors pass through the shop to reach the displays.
The collection consists of photographs, engravings and artefacts about the seafront, boats and the work of the island’s longshoremen. Models of ships and material about shipwrecks off the Isle of Wight are also described among the exhibits.
