Mary Shelley's House of Frankenstein

Multi-sensory museum in a Georgian townhouse in Bath telling the story of Frankenstein and its creator Mary Shelley.

Opening hoursAdmission £10.94

About the museum

Mary Shelley's House of Frankenstein is a privately run museum and entertainment attraction in a Grade II listed townhouse at 37 Gay Street in Bath, between Queen Square and The Circus. It is operated by Bath Attractions Ltd and opened in 2021. The museum tells how a teenage girl came to write the novel Frankenstein while living in Bath, and follows the story of the monster through theatre, film and television.

The visit is self-guided and spreads over four split-level floors linked by low staircases and short flights of steps. Rooms combine unusual objects and vintage items with interactive, multi-sensory settings, and an eight-foot animatronic monster. Some areas are dark and use sound and visual effects, and a basement walk-through is designed as a horror experience.

Besides the museum, the same building offers themed escape rooms and games, a theatrical walking tour of Bath called The Frankenstein Experience, and seasonal horror evenings around Halloween. The effects and horror elements mean that the attraction may not suit younger children.
