About the museum
Mid-Antrim Museum is part of The Braid, the museum and arts centre below the town hall in Ballymena, and is run by Mid and East Antrim Borough Council. The building stands at the junction of Linen Hall Street and Bridge Street.
The entrance atrium is about 14 metres high and holds installations that explore the links between people, place, local history and identity. The History Gallery follows the story of mid-Antrim and its people from early times to the present, using objects of local and national importance and interactive displays. Its themes are settlement and change, commerce and industry, living off the land, and politics and conflict, and it offers sound narratives for adults and hands-on displays for children.
The museum's social history collection comes mainly from the 19th and 20th centuries and includes objects from industrial, commercial and rural life in the borough. Changing exhibitions, events and learning programmes for all ages take place throughout the year.
