About the museum
Moseley Heritage Museum is based at Tumblydown Farm at Tolgus Mount, north of Redruth, an operational stables and equine site. It combines an industrial narrow-gauge railway collection with toy trains and local mining displays, and it is run by volunteers.
The railway side of the museum includes locomotives of the kind used at the nearby South Crofty tin mine, restored by rail enthusiasts. Visitors can take a ten-minute ride on the railway to see the horses in their paddocks. Indoors there are numerous vintage model railway layouts and more than 400 Meccano models, some of which visitors can operate themselves. Galleries set in a mine-style setting show local mining exhibits and a wide range of curios.
Entry, the train rides and the car park are all free, and the museum relies on a voluntary donation box for upkeep and development. Special events, such as heritage days and Halloween and Christmas events, are held through the year, and the Wheeltappers Canteen serves drinks and home-made cakes at these events.
