About the museum
The Peter Edwards Museum and Library is the official museum of Essex County Cricket Club. It is dedicated to the memory of Peter Edwards, the club’s Secretary and General Manager from 1979 to 2000, and was formally opened in 2006 thanks to the generosity of his late wife, Sue Edwards.
It stands at the county ground on New Writtle Street in Chelmsford, behind the club shop, and is run by volunteers. Its displays include photographs, books, equipment, clothing and other memorabilia about the club and its players, going back to the foundation of Essex County Cricket Club in 1876.
To mark the club’s 150th anniversary and the museum’s own 20th anniversary, eleven new permanent display boards were installed in 2026. They cover the men’s team, the women’s team, ability teams, young players and the ground and its groundsmen, and a roll of honour shows more than 50 leading players.
