About the museum

Sally Lunn's occupies a house in Bath that is described as the oldest in the city. According to the house's own account, Solange Luyon, a Huguenot refugee, brought the Sally Lunn bun to Bath in 1680, and her name was later anglicised to Sally Lunn. The bun is still baked to the original recipe and served in the tea house on the ground floor.

The small museum is in the cellar, which is reached by about twelve stone steps. It shows the bakery in which Sally is said to have worked in the 1680s, including an old faggot oven for baking bread. An excavated area shows the history of the site back to the Roman occupation, and a window looks onto the original street level of the house. A model of Sally's working kitchen shows how the bakery may have looked.

Entry to the museum is free, and visitors do not have to eat in the restaurant. The cellar also contains a small gift shop selling the buns and other Sally Lunn products.
