About the museum
Slough Museum is an independent charity that collects and shares the heritage of the town. It began collecting in 1985 and opened to the public in April 1986 in a house on Bath Road. In 1997 it moved to the High Street, where it gained full museum accreditation in 2006 before leaving the site in 2011. It then used space in the town’s central library until that closed in 2016.
Since 2023 the museum has been based on the Slough Trading Estate, in a unit offered by the estate’s owner SEGRO. The site holds the collection and an exhibition space, and an exhibition curated with SEGRO covers the history of the trading estate.
The museum also shows eight themed pods in The Curve, the library and cultural centre in the town centre. They range from early local history to Victorian railways, science and innovation, cinema and the stories of communities that settled in Slough. The collection holds around 10,000 objects and photographs.
