About the museum
The South Wales Police Heritage Centre tells the story of policing in South Wales from Celtic times to the present day. It is housed on the secure site of the force’s headquarters in Bridgend, which is why visits can be made only by prior arrangement.
The collection of police memorabilia is described as one of the largest outside London. Displays include an Edwardian charge room and a cell that is home to the figure of a prisoner, Isaac Martin. A virtual tour shows objects in their original settings.
The centre works with schools across South Wales and offers programmes linked to the National Curriculum, including sessions on Victorian policing in Merthyr in the 1860s and on the police in the Second World War. It also takes part in the Open Doors heritage weekend and in the force’s family fun day.
