About the museum
The Stanmer Rural Museum keeps rural artefacts from Stanmer and the surrounding Downs, mainly equipment used for farm work and traditional crafts. The collection is cared for by the Stanmer Preservation Society, a local group that also looks after Stanmer Church and the nearby donkey wheel, a treadmill once turned by a donkey to raise water for the village.
The displays are housed in the village of Stanmer Park, where the building is also known as the Stanmer Craft Museum and is shared with a group of local makers and artists. Exhibits mentioned in recent descriptions include a gypsy caravan and an old tram shelter from Preston Drove.
