About the museum
The Tayside Medical History Museum is run by University of Dundee Museum Services and tells the story of pioneering medical research and practice in Dundee and the surrounding region. Its displays are based at the School of Medicine on the Ninewells campus, with further permanent and temporary displays around the hospital, including works of art and portraits of notable local medical figures.
The main permanent display is outside the Gannochy Trust Lecture Theatre on level 7 of the School of Medicine. The museum has also staged temporary exhibitions in the medical school foyer and the hospital concourse, for example on the history of Ninewells, which opened in 1974 as the first new teaching hospital built in Britain since the nineteenth century, and on maternal and child health in Tayside.
A 3D virtual recreation of the main display can be explored online for those who cannot visit in person.
