About the museum

Kemsing Heritage Centre looks after the history of the village of Kemsing at the foot of the North Downs in Kent. Its archive centre, behind St Edith Hall on the High Street, was officially opened on 23 October 2010 in front of more than 200 members of the heritage association and invited guests.

The archive holds a large amount of material on the village and its people, much of it donated by the late Vic Bowden, a local historian who wrote a history of Kemsing. It also contains a large photographic archive that volunteers digitised with the help of a grant, and a substantial collection of artefacts and memorabilia that have been given over many years. Visitors can look at the objects and the photographs, and the material can be used for family history and other research.

The centre also researches the village's Voluntary Aid Detachment hospital of the First World War, which treated more than 1,000 patients, and publishes transcripts of parish registers and records. It organises a programme of evening talks at St Edith Hall, and a grants fund supports volunteers who research the history of the village.
