About the museum
The Peace Museum was founded in Bradford in 1994 and for about 25 years was housed in Piece Hall Yard in the city centre. It collects objects linked to people who have worked to make the world more peaceful, including banners, personal items, campaign materials and artworks donated from around the world, and is the only accredited museum of its kind in the UK.
In summer 2024 the museum moved to a larger space on the third floor of Salts Mill in Saltaire, on the edge of Bradford. The move gave it more room to show its collection and improved access.
The displays cover the history of peace, peacemakers, social reform and peace movements, with a strong focus on Bradford stories such as local peace protests and Bradford Women for Peace. Visitors move through one exhibition space with banners hanging from the ceiling and a contemplation area, and can learn to say "peace" in several languages or make protest placards.
