About the museum
The Warwickshire Yeomanry was raised in 1794 as volunteer cavalry for the defence of the county. The museum began at the regiment’s headquarters in Priory Road, moved to Stratford in 1967 and later settled in the basement of the Court House in Jury Street, Warwick.
The museum closed for a major refurbishment of the Court House, supported by a Heritage Lottery grant, and reopened in August 2014 with new displays built by its volunteers. A lift now serves the basement.
The collection covers the regiment from 1794 to 1956 and includes uniforms, weapons, medals and personal belongings from the Boer War and the two world wars. Highlights are Lady Butler’s painting of the cavalry charge at Huj in 1917 and a captured 75mm Krupp gun from that action. The museum is run by volunteers through a charitable trust.
